As a freelancer with Qwick, you're an independent contractor responsible for keeping track of your earnings and accurately reporting them in tax filings. Qwick doesn't provide a breakdown of your total earnings between base pay, tips, etc.

Qwick can't provide tax advice, nor can we verify the accuracy of any publicly available tax guidance online. However, to help you with your 2022 taxes, we’ve partnered with Keeper, a tax filing and expense-tracking software specifically designed for independent contractors like you. Redeem your 53% discount and get started with Keeper by clicking here.

Keep in mind, Qwick doesn't automatically withhold taxes. You will be able to review your nonemployee compensation total for the 2022 tax year.

If you earned $600 or more in 2022 on the Qwick platform, you’ll receive a 1099-NEC form via our payment partner, Stripe. Click here to visit the Stripe support website.

How to get your 1099:

  1. Go to your Stripe Express account (within the Qwick for Freelancers app).

  2. Confirm your delivery method and personal information is correct within the Stripe Express dashboard. You have until January 19, 2023 to change the delivery method of your 1099-NEC form.

  3. Questions? Stripe support can help!

Note: You can change the delivery method to e-delivery within the Stripe Express dashboard to go paperless. If you'd like to receive a physical copy of your 1099, please change your delivery method by emailing the Stripe Express support at [email protected].

FAQs

What tax forms will I get?

The only tax form that eligible Qwick freelancers will receive is the 1099-NEC, and this is ONLY for freelancers who earned $600 or more on the platform in 2022. Freelancers who earned less will NOT receive and do not need a 1099 form.

What is a 1099-NEC?

1099-NEC forms are federal income tax information forms used to report independent contractor payments. Since these independent contractors are not on payroll, they do not have taxes withheld. The forms are filed with the U.S. Internal Revenue Service (IRS) and, if required, state tax departments. 1099-MISC are now only sent to those needing to report miscellaneous income, such as from rent or attorney fees. Federal W-2s are sent to employees on payroll to report their wages, taxes, etc.

How will tax forms be delivered to me?

Within the Account tab of your Stripe dashboard, there's a section labeled "Tax Forms." If you opt for e-delivery, your form will be downloadable from there. If you opt for paper mail, your form will be delivered to the address listed within Stripe. (Expect this in the first or second week of February).

What’s the difference between e-delivery and paper delivery?

Paper delivery means you will receive your 1099-NEC form via the mail. E-delivery is a completely paperless process for receiving your 1099 form. It is the fastest, most convenient option. Anyone that qualifies for a 1099 should be able to electronically view the form in the Stripe dashboard once taxes are filed by January 31, 2023, whether or not e-delivery has consented. If you would like a physical form via postal mail, please update your preferences and ensure that all personal information, such as an address, is correct.

Please note: Stripe will not be able to provide you with an additional mailed copy if you do not update your preferences or provide the correct information. You may print out your e-copy to serve as a physical copy. Have questions on how to manage and navigate your 1099s in Stripe? View a walkthrough here.

How can I get my 2022 Qwick earnings history?

Qwick freelancers don't need to calculate their 2022 earnings themselves; they will be clearly indicated on your 1099 form. However, if you want to estimate your earnings prior to receiving your 1099 form, you can do so by logging in to Stripe Express.

What do I do if my 1099 form has incorrect information on it?

  • If your personal information (e.g., name, address, etc.) is incorrect, please log in to Stripe Express to correct your information. A corrected electronic 1099 form will be generated in 24 hours. If you haven't received the Stripe Express invitation to create an account and made over $600 with Qwick in 2022, please reach out to Stripe support.

  • When setting up your account, certain information will be locked once a legal entity is verified. You’ll need to contact Stripe support to assist in updating the below information:

    • Date of birth

  • If you believe your earnings total is incorrect, your full earnings history is available in Stripe Express. Note, however, that Stripe Express includes your earnings from other platforms that partner with Stripe for tax purposes.

What if I earned money via other sources in 2022?

It is your responsibility to track your own earnings and pay the corresponding taxes. Your 1099 form that you will receive from Stripe in relation to your work via Qwick is only reflective of that income.
